The Black Phone
The director's claustrophobic thriller remains effective even without a continuation. Taking place in 1970s Colorado, several kidnappings has left the children on edge. When Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and held captive in a basement, he fears a fatal end. This Dramatic Portrait
In the conflict between spirituality and money, the victory is clear for materialism in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky biopic regarding the shamed religious broadcaster and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield portrays the venal Jim, who states initially, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple commence profiting from the nation's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of bad interior design, bad makeup and bad faith, though the lead actress succeeds to present the character as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, early morning, Film4
